Abstract
This study is a discussion of the architecture of tourism in Turkey, by the means of acase study of Mediterranean Turkey and Antalya, and also through the concepts ofplacelessness, identitylessness and adaptive re-use. The diversity and historicaltransformation of the facilities for tourism in Antalya's urban fabric are surveyed, andthe criteria, policies and methods of architectural interventions affecting the relatedprocesses are researched for their weight and importance. Additionally, thephenomenon of "place", which may sometimes be an instrument for the consumption ofspace, is examined through case studies. The possibility of identity- and memoryrelatedattitudes with design decisions in the practices of design andpreservation adaptive re-use in historic and layered contexts is evaluated in terms ofarchitecture of tourism.
