Lomber Disk Hernisi Ameliyatı Olan Hastalar Için Geliştirilen Hasta Güvenliği Öğretim Planının Hastaların Günlük Yaşam Aktiviteleri Ve Yaşam Kalitesi Üzerine Etkisi

This study was performed as semi-experimentally to determine the effectiveness of patient safety teaching plan developed for patient with lumbar disc herniation surgery on patients' activities of daily living and life quality. The study included 60 patients (30 controls, 30 experimental) who applied for lumbar disc hernia surgery to Ankara University İbn-i Sina Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic and meet the criteria to be included in the sample. ?Patient Description Form?, ?Knowledge Level Determination Form?, ?Activities of Daily Living Form? and ?Short Form-36 Quality of Life Scale? used in the data collection. ?Patient Safety Education Plan for Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation Surgery? that developed by the researcher based on literature applied for the patients? safety, ?Patient Safety Teaching Booklet for Patient with Lumbar Disc Hernia Surgery? was used in the content of the plan. ?Patient Description Form?, ?Knowledge Level Determination Form?, ?Activities of Daily Living Form? and ?Short Form36 Quality of Life Scale? were completed by face to face interviews with patients in experimental and control groups on the day that were admitted to the clinic. ?Patient Safety Education Plan for Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation Surgery? was applied individually to patients in the experimental group on the day that were admitted to the clinic according to ?Patient Safety Teaching Booklet for Patient with Lumbar Disc Hernia Surgery? after completed the forms. Completion of forms took an average 30 minutes and teaching took an average 45 minutes. Patients in control groups received routine nursing care applied in clinic. ?Knowledge Level Determination Form?, ?Activities of Daily Living Form? and ?Short Form36 Quality of Life Scale? were again completed with patients in both groups? face to face interviews by the researcher when they come to control after 8 week from discharge. Percentage values, Pearson Chi-Square, Kolmogrov-Smirnov Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test were used to evaluate the data. According to the results of the study, the patients in experimental and control groups have similar characteristics, information score medians and activities of daily living score medians of patients in experimental group higher than the control groups in second evaluation and this difference was statistically significant (p<0,05). Difference between quality of life score medians of patients in experimental and control groups all dimensions of quality of life were statistically insignificant (p>0,05) in second evaluation. The physical function, pain and emotional role dimensions of quality of life scores medians in second evaluation of the patients in the experimental group were higher than scores medians in the first evaluation, and this difference was statistically significant (p<0,05). According to the study results, using the ?Patient Safety Education Plan for Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation Surgery? to patient with lumbar disc herniation surgery according to ?Patient Safety Teaching Booklet for Patient with Lumbar Disc Hernia Surgery? is recommended.
