Anlamdan Yoruma: Dil Felsefesinin Sınırları Üzerine Bir İnceleme
Abstract
In this study, the way of thinking language through twenty first century philosophy has been traced on the context of the two main concepts of philosophy of language, meaning and interpretation. For this purpose, the transformation of the notion of meaning is discussed within the context of objectivity in the first part. At the end point of this transformation, anunderstanding of meaning interacting with the action is attained instead of an objective insight on the meaning. In the second part, the notion of interpretation is evaluated through the notion of lived experience. The matter of interpretation has led to the notion of text by materialization of lived experiencewithin the script. Therefore, it has been attempted to place the notion of text within the philosophy of language as a fundamental term in both hermeneutic and post structural thinking. For that the comprehension of impossibility of absolute meaning related with the notion of text is introduced on Derrida in the third part. At the last part the evaluation of how the limits of philosophy of language should be redrawn, is attempted regarding both the new approach that Ricoeur brought to the notion of meaning and interpretation and the relation of them with objectivity, lived experience, text and finally action. In fact Ricoeur has evaluated the action of man as a text, carrying a meaning and open to interpretation and has led to important development in philosophy of language. In a manner, the approaches on language in this dissertation have been synthesized by the thoughts of Ricoeur. It has been pointed out that philosophy of language including Ricoeur as well is a result of reckoning with Cartesian philosophy. Thus, by talking on the language of philosophy, the fundamentals of philosophy of language and the determinant aspects are made clear.
