Abstract
The critical thought, which identified with Frankfurt School has not far from the Hermeneutic Tradition because of the critique and the hermeneutic understanding has a reflective content. To accept this essential remark, this study focuses on critical function and scope of the reflection. The first two chapters analyse the Hermeneutic Tradition and Frankfurt School that conclude the reflection has a dual critical function. Firstly, I acquire self-consciousness by means of hermeneutic reflection; secondly, I open myself to social consciousness as well as acquire this. The critical hermeneutic reflection that specialized in account of function and scope through the debate between Gadamer and Habermas, come forward as an emancipating ability. Ricoeur expresses this ability as a power that found and collectivize the self.
