The aim of this research is to determine the counseling processes, the skills they have, the problems they face and the self-efficacy levels of the family counselors who have family counseling certificate. The research is a descriptive study which is a general survey model which is one of the quantitative research techniques. The sample of the study consists of 257 family counselors working in private family counseling centers and private counseling centers, which have family counseling certificate in accordance with the regulation which was enacted in 2012 by the Ministry of Family Labor and Social Services. The data of the study were collected through a questionnaire form created by the researcher and the Self Efficacy Scale (DÖYÖ) developed by Johnson, Baker, Kopala, Kiselica ve Thompson (1989) and adapted into Turkish by the researcher. The analysis of the data was done by using SPSS v25.0 program, IBM AMOS and R programming language. As the scale was adapted to Turkish, the validity of the language was examined. After the validity and reliability analysis of the scale, frequency, chi-square tests, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed to analyze the data related to the questionnaire and the scale.
In the study, it was found that the majority of the family counselors were women and were under the age of 40 years. It was determined that the majority of the participants received another training other than family counseling certificate training and the training they received the most was sexual therapy. Family counselors who participated in the research stated that they mostly used solution-oriented family counseling theory in their consultancy processes, that the subject they felt most competent about was communication and that that families applied to them with the most communication problems. According to the results, it was found that family counselors had high self-efficacy. It has been found that those who do more family counseling for a longer period of time, who take other trainings other than family counseling training, and who use the theories and techniques in the counseling process have higher self-efficacy than others. In addition, the internal consistency of the scale was high and the decisions to be given based on this scale were accurate and reliable in line with the validity and reliability analysis of the Counselor Self-Efficacy Scale (DÖYÖ).
