In this study, it is aimed to look at the concept of translation as a reproduction action that
exists in all areas in which creativity exists, both in the light of discussions within the
context of language disciplines and from a wider perspective. In this context, it has been
tried to redefine the space which is a design object as a translation object by bringing
together with the creative aspect of translation action.
The experimental production of the Oulipo (Workshop of Potential Literature) group, a
game club founded in France in 1960, highlights the translation as an action that
improves creativity in writing, beyond solving a communication problem. Furthermore,
the unique techniques of Oulipo group have been adapted into the other interdisciplinary
areas besides of literature. Raymond Queneau’s Oulipian text of “Exercices de Style”
(Exercises in Style), which explores the possibilities of language with 99 varieties of a
story and establishes strong bonds with creativity and translation, is examined as a
source text in this study. In the last part of the study, a spatial translation of this work,
which has been translated many times into other languages and other disciplines, is tried.
The potential of Oulipo in spatial production environment is investigated with 33
variations produced in this proposition.
