Traverten Çökellerinin Aktif Tektonik Çalışmalar İçin Önemi: Tokat Reşadiye Traverteni (Kuzey Anadolu Fay Sistemi, Türkiye)
Özet
This study aimed to explain the evolution of the Quaternary travertine and it’s relation with active tectonics in the city-centre of Reşadiye district of Tokat province. The travertine deposition which is investigated in the content of thesis, has been deposited along an enlarged crack as paralel compression to main fault of Kelkit Valley segment of the right lateral strike North Antolian Fault System (NAFS) which is a large shear zone. The travertine is approximately NW-trending fissure ridge type travertine according to morphological classification.
Collected samples along the ridge of the travertine was analysed with XRD (whole all rock) technique and the prepared thin sections were examined. As results of the analysis and petrographic examinations, the samples were completely composed of calcite minerals.
Rare Earth Element (REE) analyse results of the samples show that the geothermal waters forming the travertine are rapidly rising as a result of seismic activity and the water-rock interaction is limited. In the REE distribution models, negative Ce, positive Y, and positive Eu anomalies are very notable.
Stable isotope values are between 5.23 and 7.85 ‰ (VPDB) of δ13C values and between δ18O values (-12.05) and (-17.83) ‰ (VPDB). These values are indicators of the meteoric origin of the travertine.
The chronological evolution of the travertine and the U / Th dating method is used to determine the relationships and applied to 8 samples taken from the study area. The minimum age of these samples is determined as 0.245 ± 0.182 years and the maximum age is 6.957 ± 0.657 years.
The obtained age data is consistent with the historical earthquakes that occurred in the Kelkit Valley segment of NAFS. This shows that formation of calcite veins along the Reşadiye-Termal fissure ridge type travertine is related to earthquakes.
