TEKECI, Y. Examination of Sensory Processing in Individual with Cannabis Addicted. Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Master Thesis in Occupational Therapy Program, Ankara 2018. This study was conducted in order to analyze sensory processing processes in cannabis addicted individuals. For this purpose, we used Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile questionnaire. In the analysis of the power and sample size of the study, 70 individual were included in the study population with 35 cannabis users and 35 healthy individuals with an error margin of 0,05 and 80% working power. Individuals included in the study group, Nafiz KÖREZ Sincan Govermental Hospital Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment and Training Center are the people who are followed in the Probation Policlinic. A control group with similar age and sex and living in the same sociocultural environment was included in accordance with the sociodemographic data of the individuals who in study group. For the control group of healthy individuals, Dr. Nafiz KÖREZ at the Sincan Govermental Hospital, individuals were included in the study. The sample is predominantly of 18-25 age group. The general study population, however, is between 18 and 60 years old. When accordance with addiction epidemiology, we see that the younger generation of individuals is predominant in our study. There was a significant difference only in the area of sensory avoidance after the evaluations by holding p≤0.05 between the groups. Substance-user individuals exhibit their preferences for avoidance behavior as an adaptation to the environment, such as social isolation, avoidance of social interaction and choosing loneliness. Our study revealed the necessity of new studies in terms of both sensory integration approach and other approaches of occupational therapy. This study is the first trial with the cannabis users in analyzing the sensory information processed, for the rehabilitation of addiction population in Turkey is important for occupational therapy approaches could provide a new perspective.
