Özet
Ethics is a set of principles that apply to all societies and times, and that provide the right behavior and living. According to this, professional ethics are values which direct the persons to act on the basis of the truths of the related profession and science field.
In each field ethical principles are organizer, so they cannot be considered apart from the academic life and research process. Science will contribute to the development of society as long as done upon ethical principles, correctly and reliably. In this sense, science ethics is part of the academic world. It is important for the academicians who will carry out scientific research activities to be aware of these ethical principles and values at the beginning of their profession. For this reason, it is expected that research assistants who are at the first stage of academicians should have a correct perception and knowledge about science ethics.
Plagiarism is the result of the ignorance of ethical principles when conducting scientific research, but at the same time, it also causes unethical academic behavior, such as violation of the science ethics. In order to prevent plagiarism, which is one of the most common forms of academic dishonesty, content and its content need to be fully known and understood by academicians in particular.
This study was carried out in order to determine the perception, consciousness and approaches about plagiarism of research assistants at Çankırı Karatekin University. In this context, the scope of the research is composed of 210 academicians who work in Çankırı Karatekin University as research assistant position. The study conducted within the framework of the description method and 116 research assistants responded the questionnaire, which was used as a data collection tool in the research.
According to the results obtained in the research, it is understood that the research assistants are not fully aware of the scope of plagiarism and are not have a correct approach. The hypothesis defined in the form of “Research assistants of Çankırı Karatekin University who have lack of consciousness and approach mistakes about plagiarism, need scientific ethics education.” has been confirmed as the result of the research. In the direction of the results obtained in the research, it was suggested that courses such as “science ethics” and “research ethics” necessarily take place in the postgraduate programs, necessary training must be given and penal sanctions must be implement and university libraries should also provide training on plagiarism and academic dishonesty.
