Spor Merkezine Devam Eden Bireylerin Beslenme Durumları ve Yeme Davranışlarının Değerlendirilmesi
Abstract
The study was conducted with 269 participants aged from 19 to 64 who attended either of two sports centers located in Ankara for at least three months from 2014-2015. The study aimed to identify the nutrition status, and evaluate the eating behaviours and attitudes of these individuals. The general characteristics, eating behaviours and physical activity habits of the individuals were examined by survey. The antropometric measurements of participants were assessed and food diary forms and food frequency questionnaires were used to identify nutritional status, and a physical acitivity report form was used to detemine physical activity level. EAT-26 for evaluating eating disorders scores ≥20 showed tendencies towards eating disorders, whereas individuals who scored <20 did not. ORTO-15, for the diagnosis of orthorexiya nervosa scores ≤40 or less are orthorexic, whereas scores >40 are normal. Individuals’ eating attitudes were evaluated according to gender and physical activity. The mean EAT-26 and ORTO-15 scores for women were respectively 16.1 ± 4.2 and 37.6 ± 5.9 and for men were 16.5 ± 4.2 and 37.7 ± 5.8. BMI for women was influenced by the duration of their attendence at the sports centre (p<0.05). The BMI of women who attended the sport centre for at least one year was the highest of all women (30.8±5.4 kg/m2). Furthermore, the median EAT-26 score of women who constantly snack between meals (16.8) was higher than those who never snack (16.0) or occasionally snack (15.8). The neck circumferences of women is associated with their eating attitudes and behaviours. In this study, a sufficient and balanced food consumption, as well as physical activity, is of great importance for individuals who do regular exercise in order to reduce their tendency towards eating disorders. It is suggested that the food consumption of the individuals depends on gender, age range and whether the food consumption is proportional to daily physical activity.
