DİLGEN DOĞAN, Başak. The current codes of the teenagers in Germany in the
intermediary general communication - A lexical, semantic analysis under the age group
of 9-16 years, Master thesis, Ankara, 2017.
In our constantly developing and changing society, young people are given more
importance than ever. Especially parents, teachers or scientists want to get an idea about
young people‟s new areas of autonomy.
This is not just about today's curiosity. It is known that in the 18th century, young
people came out of the standard spoken language and created an area of their own, and
this situation attracted many scholars' interest. But scientifically, in the early part of the
20th century, this fenomena was granted the value it deserved. With the globalization of
communication in the world, it has become necessary to explain the reasons for
changing the language of young people. Among the most controversial topics of our
time, the standard language comes out, the language of youth and the new meaning that
communication creates. The development of the German language is closely related to
the development of new forms of communication. Especially nowadays, youth is
communicating more with internet network and online games. In this way, the way of
speaking changes and it is understandable that it reflects the verbal and literary
language. Young people communicate by using word abbreviations or by adding
foreign words to their speech and even by generating new words. As you can see, the
language change is too great. The effects of foreign language words on German
language are very high and it is obvious that the situation has completely changed the
vocabulary of the German language.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the structure of language in general and the
differences in the structure of language used by young people and the reasons for their
use. This research study consists of two sections, theoretical and practical. In the
theoretical section, the study aims to include concepts that are important for the research
field. In the first part, general experimental conceptual explanations are made. Then, by
xi
explaining the theoretical and methodological bases, the study focus on the integration
of the youth language into the language varieties. In the third part, the research explains
the concept of youth language which came from the past and give information about the
reasons for using it.
In the final part, that makes up the practical section, the paper study evaluates the faceto-face
and network interview analysis to make a general conclusion regarding the use
of the youth language, on the part of young people. Here, the research tries to make a
general induction mainly based on the interviews. In doing so, the words mainly used
in the youth language are taken as basis. In addition, the research is going to deal,
mainly, with the vocabulary and the focus of the corpus on the conversations in social
networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc... and the oral discussion groups
previously conducted in the Realschule in Illertissen. Methodological and scale-based
rules are in no way taken into account. Instead, this study case is trying to make a pure
analysis of the vocabulary, which was prepared, not only in the preparatory act, but also
during the conversations.
