This study is aimed to determine the prevalence of food addiction and focused on the assesment of the relationship between food addiction and depression, in the scope of diet quality and body composition in overweight/obese women. The study was conducted on 100 volunteer women, between the ages of 19 through 65 years, who did not have diabetes mellitus, or cardiovascular, psychiatric, metabolic diseases. Participants were not pregnant nor in lactating period and had BMI≥ 25 kg/m². General characteristics and anthropometrical measurements of individuals were recorded. Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS) was used to determine food addiction status and Beck Depression Inventory was used to determine depression. Food frequency questionnaire and 24-hour dietary recall were used to collect information about food consumption; Healthy Eating Index-2010 (HEI-2010) was used to assess diet quality. The prevalence of food addiction was %38 in women. Depression prevalence was similiar in food addicted and non- addicted groups (p˃0.05), but food addicted group had a higher depression score median compared to non-addicted group (p‹0.05). Anthropometric mesaurements and HEI-2010 scores were similar in gruops (p˃0.05). Food addiction is one the most debated topics in recent years. Further study on food addiction and elucidation of the potential effects of food addicton on obesity would be useful in the prevention and treatment of obesity.
