Özet
This study was conducted as a intervention study with a control group to evaluate the effectiveness of the "De-Escalation Model in Simple Form" which was developed by Bowers in reducing the aggressive behavior in the psychiatric clinic. The sample of this study consisted of patients with aggressive behavior who were treated in the Psychiatric Clinic of Gülhane Military Medical Academy. In each of the intervention and control groups, 64 aggressive patients were included and this study was carried out between September 2015 - June 2016. Aggressive patients in the control group were observed and clinical routine care was provided for them; Simple Form De-Escalation Model was carried out with aggressive patients and patients werw tried to be calmed down by this way in intervention group. The data were gathered by the help of the patient data sheet, pre-intervention aggression evaluation form and post-intervention aggression evaluation form. Chi-square, Mann Whitney U and Odds Ratio test were used for the data analyses. According to the results, at the end of the intervention while there were not any statistically significant change in verbal aggressive behaviors (p>0,05). Number and rates of physical aggression injuries as a result of aggression, chemical and physical restrictions were statistically significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group. As a result of this study, use of this model is proposed in order to prevent aggressive behaviors and their undesirable consequences in psychiatric clinics.
