One of the strongest aspects of modern Azerbaijani literature is the novel genre. The novel genre has an
important place in the evolution of Azerbaijani literature and in conveying social problems. Various
subgenres such as realistic, psychological, historical and social novels have developed in novel genres, and
authors have used these genres to describe the people's search for identity and the processes of change in
society. Detective novel is one of these genres. The first examples of this genre were given in the 19th
century and have caused debate among literary researchers for centuries. While some take this genre
"lightly" and do not find it literary, others emphasize its fiction and the multitude of elements of curiosity
and emphasize that it has the characteristics of a literary work. This genre, which has become widespread
and popular over time, has hundreds of well-known writers and millions of followers today.
Chingiz Abdullayev is one of the most important names who has written works in the detective novel genre.
In this study, the detective novels of Chingiz Abdullayev, one of the successful writers of the detective novel
genre, will be discussed. The works will be examined in the context of detective novel theory, the social
background that forms the basis of the works will be examined in a historical framework, the real events
that are the subject of the novel's fiction will be emphasized, and the political actors explicitly mentioned
or referred to in the character cast will be classified. In addition, instead of the classic detective story theme
of knot-exposition-resolution (reverse plot, which Ernest Mandel calls ‘recit e rebour’), Chingiz
Abdullayev’s detective novel technique, which progresses in the form of exposition-unit-resolution, will be
emphasized. The concept of global political crime fiction will be analyzed through the author’s works such
as Mavi Melekler, Oktav Timi, Araftan Kurtuluş, Kurtlar Sofrasında, and the political events that led to the
emergence of this concept and permeated all of the works will be drawn attention.
