Évaluation de la modalité d’interprétation à distance de la perspective des interprètes de conférence en Turquie suite à la pandémie de COVID-19
Özet
With the COVID-19 pandemic, teleworking has become an obligation for the professional world.
This has also been the case in the interpreting sector, and professional conference interpreters
have had to adopt their modus operandi in line with the “remote” interpreting modality. Remote
interpreting, which is practices in a different environment to in situ interpreting, has since had a
drastic impact on the working conditions of professional conference interpreters. As a result,
professional organisations have drawn up guides to assist them with interpreting assignments
carried out remotely at home or in isolated premises dedicated to this modality. The aim of this
study is first to identify the new working conditions recommended by the organisations
concerned, and the extent to which they are being applied. Indeed, this alteration involves
several adaptations at the technical, physical and mental levels. The second aim of the study is
to examine how this alteration has affected the physical, cognitive and organisational
ergonomics of professionals in the trade, from their point of view. In order to find answers, they
were presented with an online questionnaire consisting mainly of three parts ; data on the
interpreter's profile, the application of recommendations and ergonomic feelings were sought.
The results obtained were then classified and evaluated under the fields of ergonomics
mentioned above. In conclusion, potential avenues for the evolution of working conditions for
this new modality are proposed, where appropriate, and fields of research requiring more indepth study are identified according to the issues at hand. In this respect, the application of
working conditions and their impact on the ergonomics of professional interpreters will be
analysed in conjunction with the database obtained, in order to pinpoint the case of Turkey
more precisely. This study should also serve as a reference for other academic studies in this
field.
