The characteristics of the work environment are crucial for employees who spend a significant portion of their lives in the workplace. Everything present in the workplace that can have a positive or negative impact on employees' performance constitutes the work environment. Individual performance emerging in the achievement of organizational goals indicates how successful a task is accomplished and how an employee behaves under certain conditions. The aim of this research is to examine the impact of work environment characteristics of hospital employees on their individual performances. Accordingly, the work environment characteristics of employees were measured using the 'Work Environment Assessment – Safety, Communication, Operational Reliability, Commitment Scale' developed by Sexton et al. (2019), while individual performances were measured using the 'Job Performance Scale' developed by Karakurum (2005). This study was conducted in October 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the changes in working conditions during the COVID-19 process were also addressed. The research was conducted with 348 hospital personnel consisting of physicians, nurses, administrative staff, and other hospital employees working in a hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health, a university hospital, and a private hospital in the city center of Rize. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses along with reliability analyses were performed. Parametric test techniques were used due to the normal distribution of scale scores. The differences in scale scores according to demographic characteristics were examined. Whether employee performance varied according to changes in working conditions and whether these changes differed according to demographic characteristics were evaluated. The impact of work environment characteristics on individual performance was examined using linear regression analysis, while the relationship between scales and dimensions was examined using Pearson correlation coefficient. As a result of the research, it was observed that hospital personnel perceive their work environment characteristics and individual job performance above average. It was determined that team climate, workload, participation in decision-making processes, and job-related ambiguity from work environment characteristics had a positive impact on individual job performance, while the intention to leave the job had a negative impact. Hospitals can enhance collaboration and team spirit to increase interaction among employees. To increase participation in decision-making processes, hospitals can create a culture that listens to and values employees' ideas.
