Alzheimer Hastalık Sürecinin Kurumlarda Bakım Verenler Üzerine Etkileri
Abstract
Scientific discoveries and technological developments have prolonged human life and made age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's, which have not been given much importance in the past. The changing socio-demographic and socio-economic structure has also been influential on the shape of care given to seniors, and it is necessary to pay attention to the problems of caregivers by increasing the number of those who prefer institutional care.
Caregivers working in nursing homes have; physical, economic, psychological and social problems. Workloads are too high and working conditions are very heavy. Due to their working hours and role allocations, they have no private life and are undergoing social isolation. Their care is worn out and they are not satisfied financially. Psychology is deteriorating and often needs support.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the Alzheimer's disease process on caregivers.For this purpose, in the study, information is provided on the socio-demographic and psychosocial characteristics of caregivers, the needs of the caregiving, the need for physical and social support, and, if not, what they wanted to do for the solution. In the context of the research, the caregivers of Alzheimer's patients who works private nursing homes operating in Ankara were interviewed
A quantitative research method is used in the research and 205 people were studied.Zarit burden inventory(ZBI) and interview form was performed to caregivers.The data obtained were processed via SPSS (versison 23).
As a result of the research, the burden of care is related to socio-demographic factors such as age, gender, education, marital status; psychosocial, such as
the mood in the social conditions found; (p<0,05) with the characteristics of working life and economic status such as obtaining job satisfaction.
It has also been achieved that the number of social workers who work in institutions should be increased. It is observed that most of the caregivers do not get access to the whole of the institution and that they can not benefit from these services because of the fact that the service provided is mostly focus on elderly and the social worker is inadequate in time and employment. It has been determined that caregivers need to be supported by social workers, who are professionals, due to problems they experience their work and private life. Most caregivers, especially maintenance staff, do not know what to do to solve the problems they are facing and where to apply. They have problems accessing the resources they need and their psychology is deteriorating. Social services, a multidisciplinary profession, can cooperate with other professionals to support caregivers and mobilize external sources for the applicant when necessary. They can assume roles such as counseling, advocacy, case manager, researcher for caregivers and perform functions such as psychosocial assessment, planning, psychosocial intervention.
