Abstract

The subject of this thesis is Political Party in Critical Theory. In representative democracy, parties are the fundamental means of operation. For this reason, mainstream social science takes interest in political parties as a part of representative process and a wide literature ensues in this subject. Apart from the mainstream understanding of the notion of political party, there exists a wealth of works employing alternative approaches to theories of sovereignty and representation. Marxist party theory stands out among these different approaches due to its critical methodology and having provided a plethora of literary works in this field. This thesis intends to evaluate Political Party in Critical Theory which provide important alternative insights into the mainstream social science theory of political party, and then aims to compare the notions of political representation in these two theories.
