Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı -Türkiye Cumhuriyetinde İslam’ın Kurumsal Statüsü- (1924-1950)
Özet
In this dissertation, establishment of Presidency of Religious Affairs in the Republic of Turkey is discussed within the frame of the religion, state and public relations as envisaged by the new regime. The main activities of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, which has implemented the institutional status that the founders of the Republic had given to Islam, constitute the research area of this dissertation. Within this frame, we will try to understand the level and the method of involvement of the Presidency of Religious Affairs in the implementation of regulations towards the establishment of a “secular”, “national” and “contemporary” social order between 1924-1950, which covers the one party years and the period of transition to multi-party life. Besides, we will try to clarify the attitude of the Presidency of Religious Affairs in terms of the radical measures, punishments and segregation policies that had been implemented for settling down the secular order and its role and function for controlling the social/religious opposition against the revolution within the frame of archive documents.
