Özet
A mesnevi employing characters named after celestial bodies, Hurşîd and Hâver, was written by 16th century poet Hamidi of the Murad III era. In this dissertation, the only copy of the work is translated and analyzed in terms of its form and content.
This study is made up of an introduction and three chapters. The introduction provides information about the Mihr and Mâhs written before Hurşîd and Hâver. The first chapter which briefly introduces Hurşîd and Hâver, is followed by the second chapter which includes a summary of the work as well as information on its plotline, setting, narrator and characters.
In addition to the poem’s prose type, meter, rhyme schemes, language and style, its motifs and fairy tale elements are also analyzed in this section. The content analysis focuses on the themes of religion, morals, nature and social life. The last section of the chapter draws a comparison between Hurşîd and Hâver and other Mihr and Mâhs in order to display the characteristics Hurşîd and Hâver shares with other works and those that distinguish it from them.
The third chapter includes the mesnevi itself.
This work of Hamidi, written in the last quarter of the 16th century, is the last Mihr and Mâh style work in Turkish literature.
