The aim of this study is to develop a model for determining the social work needs, to prevent technology addiction, to meet the unmet needs of children in the coping and recovery process and social support programming for technology-dependent children (internet, social networks, etc.).
For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 14 participants, 3 of whom are addicted to technology (internet, social networks, etc.), 6 children are in the risk group and 5 children are in the threshold group.
It has been tried to develop a model for the determination of the social work needs of students with technology (internet, social networks, etc.) addiction and to meet those needs, and a research has been carried out in order to examine the issues that children need (or needs that they are not even aware of) from a social work perspective and discipline, it is designed in a qualitative structure.
The data obtained from the interviews; It has been analyzed over nine main themes: “Individual Counseling and Information Requirements of Technology Addicted Children”, Needs that may be encountered by their “Families”, “Friends”, “School”, “NGOs” and “the State”, “Social Policies and Social Services for Technology Addicted Children”, “Technology Addicted Children and foreignness” and “Technology Addicted Children and Covid-19 Pandemic”.
As a result of the research, in meeting the needs of children with technology addiction, it has been determined that there are deficiencies in the services provided by the "family", "school", "friends", "NGO’s" and "state" and they are insufficient. In addition, children addicted to technology in the conditions of being abroad and continuing their education (abroad) and in a time of crisis such as Covid-19 may face different difficult conditions and these needs must be met by themselves, social workers and others (family, school, friends, NGO’s and State).
Children with technology addiction stated that they have needs (social service needs) and their demands for the planning of services for their needs. In line with these demands and suggestions, the research was concluded with the recommendations of social work in pre-addiction, addiction process and post-addiction processes for children with technology addiction.
