In this research, the level of fear of crime and the variables which stimulate fear of crime of women who are older than 18, TRNC citizen and live in TRNC, are examined.
While this research analyze the fear of crime of women in TRNC collaterally with litarature, it also aims to evaluate the fear of crime of women in terms of victimization model, disorder model, social control model and effects of media.
A questionnaire which were reformed by the researcher were applied to 366 women who were older than 18 and TRNC citizen in Lefkoşa, Girne, Mağusa, Güzelyurt and İskele which are five districts of TRNC.
According to results of this research, while the level of fear of crime of women living in TRNC found as mid-level, the maximum level of fear of crime of women is felt in Nicosia and Famagusta. In these areas, the variable that affects fear of crime mostly is found as physical and social disorders in terms of disorder model. In Girne which is the second biggest city of TRNC, the points of disorder scale are lower on the contrary to Nicosia and Famagusta. Furthermore, in this research it is found that age does not affect fear of crime of women. Also, direct and indirect victimization which are two of the most important variables in literatüre, do not have any effect on this sample group’s fear of crime. Media does not affect fear of crime of women in TRNC, too.
