As in many countries of the world, the number of children in Guinea-Bissau who spend most of their days in the streets is increasing. One of the most important social problems of today's world is "street children". Problems such as family breakdown, incompatibilities and violence, step mother, father, sexual abuse, livelihoods etc. may push children to the streets. "Street children and working children", which can be considered as the most important consequences of immigration and urbanization, is a global social phenomenon and is a crucial problem in some large cities in Guinea-Bissau as in many countries in the world.
When examining the relevant studies on children working in Guinea-Bissau, it is found that there are studies that deal with the subject in different dimensions, but direct researches on children working on the streets are very limited. Therefore, it was found necessary to study the current situation of children working on the street in Guinea-Bissau. This research will also contribute to the development of policies for the protection of street children. The main aim of this research is contributing to the identification a situation regarding the living conditions of children working on the street in Bissau. In this research, poverty is found to be the main cause for children working on the streets. A quantitative research was conducted by interviewing children working in the streets of Bissau. Accordingly, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 60 children, 37 boys and 23 girls, aged 9-17 years. It was seen that the children interviewed work for long hours (selling fruits, car washing, shoe polish, etc.), and most of them did not have access to education. The age of the majority of the children interviewed ranges 13-15. It has been learned that boys usually work in the streets to contribute to the family budget. If a general evaluation can be made from the results of the research, it can be said that a holistic program aiming to support children working on the street is needed.
