Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences, Master’s Degree Thesis in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Ankara, 2016. Previous studies have shown that open and frequent communication among team members is essential for an effective interdisciplinary teamwork. This study was a bidirectional investigation which invesitgated the bariers and incompentences in communication among physiotherapist and other professionals within the rehabilitation team. Physicians (n=65), nurses (n=47), physiotherapists (n=93), who work at research and education hospitals, university hospitals, private hospitals, special training and rehabitation centers in Ankara Province, were included in this study. ‘Identification of Communication Bariers Between Physiotherapists and Other Health Care Professionals Questionnaire’, which is generated by Hacettepe University Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department, was used to collect data. The results of the present study showed that % 45,2 of physiotherapists, %72,3 of physicians, % 48,9 of nurses have communication problems with other health care professionals. Physicians and nurses did not communicate with physiotherapist, positively, or negatively. Physiotherapist’s communication ratios with other health care professionals were also low. Participants put forward these reasons for problems; lack of teamwork skills, lack of communication skills, problems associated with organizational factors. In conclusion, although our study was performed on less number foundation, these findings indicate that there are some communication bariers among physiotherapists and rehabilitation team members. It’s essential to find out the solutions for overcoming the determined barriers for providing more quick, efficient, quality rehabilitation and health care for patients.
