Araklı-Sürmene (Trabzon) Arasındaki Bölgenin Jeolojik ve Yapısal Özellikleri (Kuzeydoğu Anadolu, Türkiye)
Abstract
This study aims to understand the structural geology characteristics of the area between Sürmene and Araklı towns, based on the preparation of two 1 25 000 scaled geological maps (Trabzon G44a1 and G44a4 sheets), in Trabzon, at North Eastern Anatolia, Turkey. The study area belongs to the northern zone of the eastern Pontides, one of the major orogenic zones of Turkey. It comprises Mesozoic and Cenozoic rock units with mainly volcanic, volcanoclastic and sedimentary rocks. The oldest rocks of the study area are the Upper Cretaceous volcano-sedimantery succession rocks of basic character (Çatak formation), comformably overlain by acidic lava and pyroclastics (Kızılkaya formation) of the same age.
