Blood is a body fluid that ensures the continuity of our life. The quality information of the received blood as well as information of the donor have an essential role in treatments. For this reason, it is very important for all stakeholders to supply blood in accordance with quality criteria, data privacy standards and operational safety. Although some approaches and methods have been developed to ensure quality and data privacy, data breaches are still possible due to human error/manipulation and the specification of the employed systems. Blockchain is a remarkable technology to store data on distributed ledger through the peer-to peer network. It enjoys technologies that make the data immutable more over the data can only be accessible to the users who have authorization. The goal of this study is to develop a private blockchain network for a blood transfusion management system aiming to protect the donor’s personal data, to ensure the data is consistent, and to improve operational quality. A small case study with three stakeholders is developed in Hyperledger Fabric to test the applicability of the approach. With this study, the importance of data security in the management of blood transfusion, which has an important role in the health system, was emphasized and it was tried to establish a basis for similar studies.
