In this study, the optical power and the power scintillation of multi Gaussian beams propagating in turbulent atmosphere is analytically calculated by using the Huygens-Fresnel integral when a realistic receiver possessing a finite sized aperture is employed in a horizontal atmospheric optics link. The optical power and the power scintillation of Gaussian, flat-topped and annular beams, as special cases of the multi Gaussian beam, is analyzed versus the receiver aperture radius, the propagation length and the Gaussian source size. The effect of the receiver aperture radius on the decrease of the power scintillation is examined. The receiver aperture averaging factor of flat-topped, annular beams are calculated and the receiver aperture averaging factors are plotted against the receiver aperture radius, the propagation length and the Gaussian source size. The link performance optimization is studied. Also the parameters that reduce the power scintillation index are found.
