The chair-seat object, which is sometimes considered as part of the space and sometimes as the main subject itself, has been used in different artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, land art, and installation in the art history process. The chair-seat object, which began to carry an aesthetic problematicness outside of its known meaning and function, often formed the main language of the narrative as a basic iconography of the artist's production process. The two objects in question, with their formal characteristics, were considered together with space in the formation of a work of art and produced new meanings, while the relationship of them with the space was also scrutinized and questioned. Therefore, chairs and seats, which are ordinary objects of everyday life, have become an effective art icon (in addition to the sitting function) by transforming their form and function together with new networks of relationships in the artist's iconography world.
In this study, it was aimed to examine how the chair-seat object is reflected and interpreted in the production processes of artists working in the art of painting and other art disciplines, through selected examples.
In the first section of the study, the relationship (integrity) of the chair-seat object with the space and how the artist depicts the objects in question on the pictorial plane were examined. In addition, it was mentioned how today's artists use and experience objects similar to seats and chairs with their personal understanding of art in different artistic disciplines. In the second section, explanations regarding the forms and contents of the application studies carried out in the context of the subject of the thesis were involved.
