Özet
Is it possible to consider the concept of archive as a genre among art practices? In this thesis, when the concept of archive is considered in terms of storage, accumulation, preservation and display, it was first associated with cabinets of curiosities in the historical process. Subsequently, with similar motives, the archive relationship with events such as modern art museums and large-scale biennials is examined. In the first part of the thesis, historical and chronological; In the second part, the method of conceptual research of the subject through works of art and the studies that has been done in the thesis process is preferred.
Since the archive is related to the past by its nature, it is inevitably associated with the concept of memory. It is aimed to explain the archive issue in the context of the concepts of social memory and truth in terms of its connection and limitations with the studies conducted within the scope of the thesis. In this context, it is seen that the archive is tried to be understood through a reverse reading such as non or cannot be an archive (un-archive).
In the art studies that carried out, a perspective from the field of art has been brought to the concept of archive with the direct use of historical data, which is positioned in the duality of visible and invisible.
