TUNCER, P. Investigation of the Relationship Between the Effect of Smile Aesthetics on Quality of Life in Adolescents and Aesthetic Perception of Different Dental Professionals. Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics, Specialty Thesis, Ankara, 2022. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the relationship between smile aesthetics-related quality of life of adolescents with different malocclusions, dental aesthetics, treatment needs and the perception of smile aesthetics of different professionals in dentistry. The study included 60 patients with Class 1(n=19), Class 2(n=22) and Class 3(n=19) malocclusions, mild, moderate or severe crowding, with a mean age of 14.27±1.92 years. A total of 15 professionals from the Orthodontics (n=5), Prosthodontics (n=5) and Restorative Dentistry (n=5) were included, with a mean duration of expertise of 13.8±9.54 years. The patients were examined, their dental aesthetics (IOTN-AC) and treatment needs (ICON) were determined. After the examination, the 'Smile Related Quality of Life Scale (SERQoL)' was applied to the adolescents then smile photos were taken. Smile photos were scored by professionals using the Q-sort method. The mean IOTN-AC, ICON, SERQoL and Q-sort scores of each patient were calculated. All measurements were repeated two weeks later. The reliability of the measures of interobserver agreement and test-retest agreement were found to be high. Class 1 malocclusion group had the highest Q-sort scores; IOTN-AC and ICON scores were the lowest. Smile aesthetic (Q-sort) scores given by different experts are similar according to the Angle classification. When individuals were evaluated according to the amount of crowding, patients with mild crowding had the highest smile aesthetic scores from all proffesionals. There was no difference in the mean quality of life scores between the malocclusion groups as assessed by Angle's classification; When they were evaluated according to crowding, as the severity increased, their quality of life was negatively affected. In the presence of Class 2 malocclusion in adolescents, the degree to which quality of life is affected by malocclusion increases as age increases.
