Family; It is the natural and most primary environment for the individual that supports the socialization of the child and the development of personality and identity. The broken family, on the other hand, is the type of family that occurs in three main forms as death, divorce and separation. In families divided by divorce, which is discussed within the framework of the subject of the study; During the divorce process and related conflicts, it can be seen that the child may become alienated from the parent who has not been able to get custody. The dominant view in the literature is alienation; It is about one of the parents knowingly alienating the child from the other parent for various reasons. In addition, it is known that it can occur for many different relational reasons before, during and/or after divorce on the basis of dysfunctional family communication patterns that can occur between parents. In this direction, the aim of the research is; The aim of this study is to reveal the experiences of current adult children, who have gone through the process until the divorce case of families torn by divorce or the whole process, including the lawsuit, when they were younger than 18, on alienation from their parents, through structural family systems theory, and to develop solution proposals on this issue. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with 29 subjects.
The boundaries of communication arising from dysfunctional interaction patterns within the family before the divorce and the relationship structures shaped in this direction are the first and most important connection with the experience of alienation, the foundation of which was laid in this period. It has been seen that divorce and the related problems experienced can strengthen alienation by articulating on this basis. For some of the subjects, the fact that divorce had no or negative effects on their lives showed the importance of family structure and relationships between members. Among the interviewees, there is no person who is seen to have experienced an alienation that does not exist in his feelings and thoughts towards his parents after the divorce. What happened during the processes before or during the divorce caused the relationship with the parent to reach the level of alienation. In the light of the findings obtained in the research, the two most prominent suggestions presented within the framework of social work; implementation of a support program with family counseling service that can be provided by institutions and/or organizations such as the municipality that everyone can reach throughout the whole process, and the application of “joint custody” as an alternative option for families deemed appropriate in custody cases.
