This research was carried out to evaluate the coping attitudes of parents who have a child with cystic fibrosis disease.
In this study conducted by quantitative research method, “relational scanning” was used from screening models. The sample of the research; The parents (n:112) of children with CF who applied to Hacettepe University İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital, Department of Pediatrics, Chest Diseases Unit between 03.04 2021 – 28.05.2021 and agreed to participate voluntarily in the study.
Sociodemographic data form and Assessment Scale of coping attitudes were used as data collection tools and questionnaire form was applied. Statistical analyses were performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 24.0 package program. Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests, which are non-parametric test techniques, were used in the analysis of the data.
Parents ' coping attitudes were evaluated according to sociodemographic characteristics and characteristics of children. In the scope of the research; While evaluating the coping attitudes of parents with a child with CF disease, descriptive statistics were examined within the scope of the scale's sub-dimensions and coping ways. In this context, it is seen that parents use Emotion-Focused Coping Ways more frequently when coping with the disease process, and Religious-Focused Coping comes to the fore in the scale sub-dimensions.
In the context of the findings, it can be said that parents ' coping attitudes vary according to sociodemographic characteristics and children's characteristics, and that different groups adopt different coping ways.
In this context, it is necessary to determine social work interventions and strategies to increase the coping with the disease process of children with CF, which is classified as a genetically transmitted and chronic disease, and to make micro, mezzo and macro-scale implementation plans. In this sense, it is believed that the study will make significant contributions to the field.
