Common words between Turkish and Hindi-Urdu languages are the result of Turkish influence in Indian subcontinent throughout the medieval age until the collapse of Mughal Empire. This influence can be seen in Indian art, literature, linguistics culture and architecture. Historically, Turkish language and literature have a significant place in Indian subcontinent as it was a medium of communication at the courts, and elite Turks, various sovereigns and their armies during the sultanate period. Turkish language manuscripts and related documents are still available in various libraries of India. However, since long the connection between Turkish and Hindi-Urdu languages has not been studied significantly neither in India, Turkey nor in other Hindi-Urdu speaking countries. It is only since last decades that research related Turkish, Hindi Urdu has been given much emphasis. This study is based on the common words in Turkish and Hindi-Urdu languages. The research identifies 1400 common words in Turkish and Hindi-Urdu languages and their usage in daily life. It also highlights level of the words provided in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The study also investigated how these words were presented in the Turkish textbooks prepared for foreigners in Turkey. The identified common words were classified according to A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 levels, and to show the importance of these common words this research has designed activities appropriate to A1, A2, B1, C1 and C2 levels using the common words. Along with questions and reading text, various activities were prepared with the help of common words between Turkish and Hindi-Urdu used in daily life. Finally, it is found that Indian students, especially for Hindi-Urdu speaking student learn Turkish more easily with the help of common words between Turkish and Hindi-Urdu languages.
