Alkol Kullanım Sorunları Nedeniyle Ayaktan Tedavi Gören Bireylerin Ego Savunma Biçimleri ve Tedavi Motivasyonu Arasındaki İlişkide Öz Yeterliğin ve Değişime Hazır Olmanın Aracı Rolünün İncelenmesi
Özet
The aim of the study is to investigate the mediator role of self-efficacy and readiness to change between ego defense styles and treatment motivation of individuals receiving outpatient treatment for alcohol use problems. The sample of the study consists of 83 male participants who are outpatient at University of Health Sciences, Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital, Treatment Center for Alcohol and Substance Addiction. Data were collected using Demographic Information Form, Defense Style Questionnaire, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Stages of Change Readiness and Treatment Eagerness Scale (SOCRATES) and Treatment Motivation Questionnaire.
As a result of the correlation analysis conducted to evaluate the relationships between the variables of defense styles, self-efficacy, readiness to change and treatment motivation, the relationships between the variables were found to be statistically significant. Defense styles, self-efficacy, readiness to change and treatment motivation variables were also compared in terms of demographic variables. According to the results of the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA), while the participants' level of using immature defenses showed a significant difference in terms of father’s alcohol use; as a result of the Independent Samples t Test, the participants' levels of using immature defenses, readiness to change and treatment motivation showed a statistically significant difference in terms of father’s alcohol use. According to the Correlation Analysis result, there was a significant negative relationship between the age at drinking onset and both neurotic and immature defenses while positive significant relationships were found between the age of first alcohol use and use of mature defenses, self-efficacy, readiness for change, and treatment motivation.. Serial Multiple Mediator Analyzes were performed separately for the defense styles (mature, neurotic and immature) to investigate the mediating role of self-efficacy and readiness to change in the relationship between defense styles and treatment motivation. According to the results, there is a mediator role of self-efficacy and readiness to change in the relationship of mature and neurotic defenses with treatment motivation. When the indirect effects of defense styles on treatment motivation were assessed, three indirect effects through the mediation of self-efficacy, through the mediation of readiness to change and through the serial mediation of self-efficacy and readiness to change were found to be statistically significant at analyses done with mature and neurotic defenses. Finally, clinical implications and limitations of the study were explained, and recommendations were made for future research.
