In the master's degree report titled “Visual Memory and Collage“; the historical definition of modernism, the examination of the modern concept by different thinkers, and the explanation of the ideas expressed on the critique of modern art, and their reflections in the art are mentioned.
Within the scope of this study, Collage is considered as a break from modernism and the answers to the questions of how collage was formed and how it was born were tried to be given. The ideas of the Avant-garde and Cubist painters who think that the logic of extreme individualization and centralization put forward by modernism is destruction are mentioned. It is stated that the artwork, which lost the claim of being whole, has a fragmented structure and that these pieces are forms that have been freed.
With this situation, the logic evolved towards the freedom of memory and the combination of Visual Memory pieces taken from life by the Collage method has been put forward. The pieces of Visual Memory are explained with certain concepts and examples are given by artists who use memory and Collage methods.
The works produced during the analysis process of using Collage as a form of expression under the title of Visual Memory by making use of the sensations and all kinds of information experienced during this artwork were carried out simultaneously with the concepts considered. While examining concepts like content, their expressions and forms were considered, a connection was tried to be established between meaning and form, and some of the visuals were loaded with meanings other than their own meanings.
In the context of visual memory, it is illustrated according to the desired concept to be explained, without any technical limitation in terms of its suitability to the structure of the memory. The relationship between these studies and the eclectic structures was found to strengthen the meaning. All the works to be done in this study tried to reflect their own reality and formed the discourse.
