Abstract
Located right below the bladder, prostate is an organ which weighs approximately 18-20 gr and produces secretion. The prostate gland, which surrounds male urethras and ascends to the bladder neck, is a compressed and inverted conical structure measuring 2.5 cm. Prostate is the most common tissue in male body that is afflicted with benign or malign neoplasia. Benign growth of prostate gland is known as benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Prostate cancer is malign growth of organ volume caused by disrupted balance between cell proliferation and cell death in prostate gland. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancer types in males in developed Western countries. In contrast to the high incidence rate of prostate cancer, molecular and genetic incidents in its development have yet to be enlightened. Today, it has been determined that 5-10% of prostate cancer is hereditary. Similar to Alzheimer s disease, prostate cancer has an increased incidence rate with advanced age as well.
