Karaduman Çiğneme Performansı Skalasının Oluşturulması
Özet
The aim was to determine the content, construct and criterion validity, intra and interrater reliability of the Karaduman Chewing Performance Scale and to show the effect of functional chewing training in children with chewing disorders. The opinion of seven experts was used for content validity by Delphi method. The distribution of the scale in groups with and without chewing disorders for construct validity, relation between scale and the subheadings of Behavioral Pediatrics Feeding Assessment Scale for criterion validity, relation between the scores of two physiotherapists for interrater reliability and relation between the scores of the same physiotherapist for intrarater reliability were calculated. One hundred fourty four children with the mean age of 44,9±22,5 months were included. Children were divided into two treatment groups to determine the effects of functional chewing training. Functional chewing training (n = 52 children) was given to the first group and classic oral motor exercises were given to the second group (n = 31 children). They were applied as home program for 12 weeks and were followed with weekly. There were 3 evaluations including pre-training, 1 and 3 months after training. The scale was adopted as 0-4 scaled version. The content validity index was found 0,83 (p<0,05). It was found that the construct validity was high (p<0,001), the criterion validity was mid-very good (1st physiotherapist r=0,444-0,773; 2nd physiotherapist r=0,400-0,715; p<0,001), intra and interrater reliability was excellent (r=0,962; r=0,990; p<0,001). There was no difference between groups I and II in all evaluation parameters except transition time to additional food in baseline(p>0,05). There was difference in all parameters of Behavioral Pediatrics Feeding Assessment Scale except restricted scores and chewing phase, tongue function and swallowing number during chewing function and KÇPS scores at 1 month after training (p<0,05). There was difference in all parameters of Behavioral Pediatrics Feeding Assessment Scale except restricted scores and all evaluations related to chewing function at 3 months after training (p<0,001; p<0,05). There was a significant improvement in KÇPS scores towards 3 months after training in group I despite no change in group II. It was concluded that KÇPS has content, construct and criterion validity, intra and interrater reliability and functional chewing training is an effective method to develop chewing function.
