Yaşlı Diyabetli Hastalarda Diyabet Yükü ve Hastalığı Kabul Arasındaki Ilişkinin Değerlendirilmesi
Abstract
The research was conducted to identify elder patients' burden of diabetes and their acceptance of illness, to ascertain the correlation between diabetes burden and acceptance of illness. The sample of the study consisted of 64 elder diabetes patients staying in Seyranbağları Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and 75. Yıl Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. The data were collected using a "Questionnaire Form" developed by the researcher based on the literature, "Elderly Diabetes Burden Scale" and "Acceptance of Illness Scale". As a result of the study, most of the elder diabetes patients' burden was below the mean, acceptance of illness level was close to the mean. The mean burden of diabetes was high in the patients who were female, diagnosed with diabetes over than 10 years, taking drugs with others assistance, experiencing complications related to diabetes, having family member with diabetes. Additionally; the mean acceptance of illness was low in those who not having social insurance, diagnosed with diabetes over than 10 years, taking drugs with others assistance, experiencing complications related to diabetes. There was a moderate, negative correlation between "Elderly Diabetes Burden Scale" and "Acceptance of Illness Scale". Patients who are female, having diabetes for long time, experiencing complications of diabetes should be evaluated and these patients initially should be taken consideration.
