Abstract
This study is an experimental study aiming assessment of effect of motivational conversation on self-sufficiency and drug treatment compliance of hypertensive individuals. The population of study consisted of hypertensive individuals between ages of 25-45 appropriate for study criteria and registered to family health centers. Study was based on voluntariness, 75 individuals accepting to participate in the study were divided into 2 groups as intervention and control. The study started with pre-test from and scales, in latter stage, intervention group was visited 4 times with 3-week-intervals and last visit was performed 1 month later, in each visit, individual motivational conversations were applied with periods of 30-45 minutes. The study was terminated with application of form and scales to all attendants again. Data of study carried out between dates of 6 February – 24 June 2014 were assessed using SPSS 17.0 package program. In addition to assessment of data with percentages and numbers, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis Test were used to data not exhibiting normal distribution, T Test and Wilcoxon Paired Two Sample Test were used in Dependent Groups in order to compare initial and last assessments of data. At the end of the study, while there are statistically significant differences between initial and last blood pressure measurement, BMI, Medication Adherence Self-Efficacy Scale (MASES) and General Self-Efficacy Scale, it has been detected that there is no difference between initial and last assessment results of blood pressure measurement, BMI value and used scales. Consequently, it is seen that motivational conversation can be used in regulating blood pressures of hypertensive individuals, positively affecting disease perception of individuals, providing lifestyle changes, and increasing drug treatment compliance and self-sufficiency perceptions.
