Abstract

In this thesis named “Art, Literature and Language in Melih Cevdet Anday’s ArgumentativeWritings” you can find Anday’s thoughts on literature, language and notably art.Publishing 24 argumentative books, Anday touched on every branch of fine arts in hisinformative writings. He especially allowed for painting and music. Other than these, hedwelled on sculpture and architecture and tried to introduce the artistic structures he saw inTurkey and abroad.As a poet and a writer, Melih Cevdet indited writings dealing both Turkish Literature andWestern Literature. İn his argumentative writings, he wrote about “what is poetry”, howimage is created and qualifications of a good poet. Other than poetry, he touched closely onnovel and theatre and he explained the features of them. Melih Cevdet explained the basiccriteria of a good translation and o good criticism and introduced the critics and translatorswho have a voice in Turkish Literature.
