The concept of improvement in other words development, is the change in economic data and social indicators in a country in a given period. In order to explain the development in detail, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has started publishing “Human Development data” annually since 1990. In addition, the Social Development Index, which tries to explain human development without the use of economic data, has been published by the World Bank since 2014.
The aim of this thesis is to examine the development process of Turkey in the light of economic and social data. In this context, emerging economies: Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa and Turkey were examined. In addition, economic and social data of the last three EU member states and candidate countries of the EU: Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro Albania are included.
At the first chapter of the study, definitions about economic growth and social development are given. At the second chapter of the study, examined data on economic growth and social development in Turkey between 1990 - 2018. At the third chapter, emerging economies and the last three EU member states and EU candidate countries are examined. At the last chapter of the study, a semi-structured interview was conducted and a general evaluation was made.
