Die Selbstübersetzung im interkulturellen Raum am Beispiel Yüksel Pazarkayas Werk „Ben Aranıyor" und dessen Übersetzung „Ich und die Rose"

Bi- or multilingualism is a common phenomenon due to increased migration and globalization. It is also possible to see the reflections of this situation in the field of literature. Many multilingual writers use their qualification to express themselves in their literary work. This bilingual writing allows many authors to translate their own literary works for different reasons. Yüksel Pazarkaya not only owes his special position in Contemporary German Literature to his bilingual work, but is also an exception because he works as a self-translator, and he is almost the only one among Turkish-German writers of Turkish origin who writes his work in two languages.
This study provides an overview of how Pazarkaya utilizes the translation process as a self-translator. On the basis of first published “Ben Aranıyor” and its translation “Ich und die Rose”, it aims to reveal what privileges self-translators have in contrast to conventional translators. The results of the analysis show that Pazarkaya used the self-translation process to improve his work and continued to write the German version in that process.
