The importance of information literacy for the students in all levels, from primary education to higher
education, has long been recognized. However, the integration of information literacy into teacher education
programs has been neglected. Teachers cannot equipe their students with information literacy skills unless they
themselves possess these skills. Information literate teachers can select and use resoures most appropriate to their
students. They can collaborate with school librarians in developing instruction programs and opportunities for
refining students’ information literacy skills. Furthermore, they consider learning as a lifelong process and can adapt
themselves easily and quickly to the developments and changes in education. Thus, modifying teacher education toinclude information literacy becomes necessary.
