Ayrıntılı Aydınlatılmış Onam Formunun Hasta Anksiyetesi ve Vital Bulguları Üzerine Etkisi
Abstract
In this study, impacted third molar teeth extraction surgery was conducted to 80 healthy patients without any surgical extraction experience (mean age 23,3 years) after having 40 of them read and sign the detailed consent form (detailed group) and 40 of them read and sign the ordinary consent form (ordinary group). A comparative evaluation of the patients was made between the detailed group and the ordinary group according to anxiety and vital signs. Additionaly, the effects of age, sex and education level on anxiety and vital signs were evaluated. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) were used in all patients to detect anxiety levels. Vital signs were recorded by monitoring before reading the consent form and during initial incision. Patient?s heart rate, diastolic and sistolic blood pressure and oxygen saturation were observed and they were recorded before reading and signing consent forms and at the begining of the surgery (while incision was preparing). In our study, it is observed that vital signs were not affected by informed consent forms and 8 patients (10%; 5 men, 3 women) had high levels of dental anxiety. The group who read and signed the detailed informed consent form (detailed group) had statistically significant higher levels of anxiety than the group who read and signed the ordinary consent form (ordinary group). As a result, due to increased patient anxiety with detailed informed conted forms, the information given on the consent forms should be determined carefully without invading patient?s right to to be informed which is the main purpose of consent forms.
