Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to examine the effects of the Personal Disclosure and Mutual Sharing (PDSM)
intervention program, which is based on communication, on engagement in sports teams. A total of 78
players from 8 teams [Volleyball (n=6), Basketball (n=2)] aged between 13-19 years, playing at junior and
star levels were included in the study. Scale for Effective Communication in Team Sports (SECTS) and the
The Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire (YSEQ) were used to measure communication and cohesion
variables. In the current study, the experimental condition received a seven-session PDSM intervention,
while the control condition did not. According to the findings of the repeated measures Multivariate
Analysis of Variance (MANOVA), the Distinctiveness and Negative Conflict subscale scores decreased in
the experimental group , while they increased in the control group. There was a statistically significant
increase in the experimental group in the Task Cohesion sub-dimension. The scores show that the
intervention program had a positive effect on reducing the negative aspects of communication in sports
teams and increasing task cohesion in teams.
