Abstract

Comerdov E., Evaluation of Parameters Related to Soft Tissues in Canalis Palatinus Major, Foramen Palatinum Majus and Surrounding Region by CBCT. Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Periodontology, Specialization in Dentistry Specialization Thesis. Ankara, 2019 Accurate localization of foramen palatinum majus is very important in plastic periodontal surgery. The vascular nerve pack (VNP) should be preserved during harvesting of gingival grafts from the palatinal region. The amount of FGG harvested depends on the thickness of the palatinal mucosa and the position of the VNP. There is no detailed study on the Anatolian population. The aim of this study was to evaluate PMK and TNP from images obtained by CBCT. This is to determine the ideal site for obtaining FGG. In addition, in this study, foramina palatina minora were also examined and morphological data of Anatolian population were obtained by using different parameters. Within the scope of the study, currently recorded conical ray tomography images were examined. The data obtained during the research process were analyzed with SPSS 25 software. The quantitative measurements obtained for the right and left sides were determined by t test in dependent groups; The comparison of gender and age groups was performed by t-test for independent groups. The mean age of the participants was 44.3 years. When the gender ratio of the participants is analyzed, it is 56.8 percent for men and 43.2 percent for women. The mean distance of the foramen palatinum majus from the enamel cement boundary was 14.54 ± 2.69 mm. The mean distance of the foramen palatinum majus from the cementoenamel junction was 14.54 ± 2.69 mm. There was no statistical difference between right and left sides. Statistical evaluation of the thickness of the palatal mucosa at 3 points showed a significant difference between the right and left sides. The palatal mucosa of the left side was thicker at 3 points than the right side. Lesser palatine foramen was detected in 74% of the CT scans. The localization of the right and left palatal foramen relative to the teeth is usually distal to the second molar tooth. However, close to 1% of patients, the first molar is x located just distal to the tooth. The findings were compared with the literature on different ethnic groups. There were no significant differences in the anatomical features of PMK and related structures in different ages and genders. However, it should be considered that some individuals may have clinically important anatomical variations.
