Abstract

In the transition from oral culture to written culture, and from written culture to digital culture, significant changes have taken place in the ways individuals think and in their understanding of literature. Technological developments have transformed not only people’s ways of life and thinking but also their literary perspectives. The way the author structures the text, the knowledge they must acquire, the diminishing authority over the work; and, on the other hand, the reader attaining an equal status with the author by reshaping the text and bringing it into existence through their choices—these elements have all undergone radical transformations. The perception of the text has shifted from being static to becoming dynamic. Naturally, this has also led to profound changes in the roles of the narrator. A transition has occurred from a single-dimensional narrator to a balance in which multiple types of narrators operate simultaneously, including the author, the reader, and even artificial intelligence taking on narrative roles. The boundaries of digital literature have expanded to include Wattpad, literary blogs, digital storytelling forms, and digital games. To present concrete examples of this issue, the digital interactive story Tuvaldeki Adam and the digital interactive game Life is Strange: Double Exposure have been analyzed in detail, with particular focus on the roles of reader, author, and narrator.
