Sait Faik Abasıyanık’ın Hikâyelerinin Çevreci Eleştiri Işığında İncelenmesi

Abstract

Sait Faik Abasıyanık (1906-1954) is one of the important names of Turkish literature. Sait Faik, who also has a poetry book, is better known for his storytelling side. Abasıyanık, considered one of the leading writers of Turkish storytelling, is considered one of the cornerstones of Turkish literature with his contributions to contemporary storytelling. It is possible to approach the works of Sait Faik, one of the pioneers of modern storytelling, in the light of environmental criticism. In many literary genres, in addition to the creation of works dealing with the environment and environmental problems on a general or special issue, a criticism method based on environmentalist approach has been developed. The method that emerged with the concept of “Ecocriticism” is called environmental criticism or ecocriticism in Turkish. Various methods began to emerge as of the end of the 1960s, when environmental awareness in literature emerged and works began to be given in this direction. Deep ecology, social ecology and ecofeminism are among these approaches. In fact, the framework for environmental criticism is quite wide. Every subject that concerns nature is within the area of interest of the theory. It is possible to use the theory of Ecocriticism, which emerged in the history of criticism in three waves, as a method in Abasıyanık's short stories. In this thesis, considering the approach and principles of especially first wave environmentalist criticism and deep ecology to literary texts, Sait Faik's short stories focus on the perception of nature, the relationship between human and nature, environmental problems, and the phenomenon of urbanization. In his works, the interaction of human with the soil, sea, animals, and plants is examined with an environmental-centered method.
