Nogay, along with Kazakh and Karakalpak, constitutes the Southern branch of the Kipchak languages. Some Nogays, who primarily live in the Caucasus today, migrated en masse to Türkiye, then part of the Ottoman Empire, during the Russo-Turkish Wars. Nogay has been spoken in various regions of Türkiye for over a century. The provinces of Adana, Ankara, Eskişehir, and Konya, along with their villages, are among the most prominent examples. In the sociolinguistic landscape of Turkey, Turkish functions as the prestige language, which has led to a dynamic process of language contact between Turkey Turkish and Turkey Nogay. This contact has given rise to various forms of linguistic influence and structural convergence, particularly in domains such as lexicon, phonology, and morphology. This study investigates the nature and extent of language contact between Turkey Nogay and Turkey Turkish through the theoretical lens of Lars Johanson’s Code Copying Model. Johanson’s model, developed within the context of Turkic languages, provides a comprehensive framework for analyzing the transfer of linguistic material between structurally distinct but historically and geographically related languages. The model's emphasis on the typology of copies general, selective, and mixe enables a nuanced examination of contact-induced change. The empirical foundation of the study is based on fieldwork conducted in several villages: Ağılbaşı, Boğazören, Kırkkuyu, and Seyitahmetli in the district of Kulu (Konya), as well as Akin, Doğankaya, and Şeker in the district of Şereflikoçhisar (Ankara). Data were collected through interviews with native speakers, and the transcribed texts are included in the appendix of the study. Adopting a synchronic and descriptive approach, the analysis identifies and categorizes code copies in the speech of Turkey Nogay speakers, revealing systematic patterns of contact-induced modification shaped by sociolinguistic factors and bilingual competence.
