In this study, development of a new, practical, cost effective and efficient 2D and 3D education model, to be helpful for the detection of the related issues for the basic neuroanatomy education of the undergraduate and postgraduate medical science students, in the view of hitherto studies was aimed. For this purpose white matter regions of the 2 brain were chosen and tractographic imaging, fibril dissection, microscopic anatomy and plastination techniques were carried out. During all these steps obtained photos of the specimens were converted to the 3D images and lastly specimens were plastinated and became educational models. Thereafter, the education model was applied to 104 (44 female, 60 male) Phase II students of the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. At first all the students attended to the “White Matter and The Telencephalon” lecture and then they were separated into 2 groups. After the theoretical education one group took the classical laboratory education (Group 1) and the other group took the newly designed education model (Group 2). Before and after the laboratory sessions 10 questioned multiple choice pre and post-tests were introduced to each group. According to the obtained results success averages were noted as; Group 1 pre-test 3.87±1.75, pos-test 5.38±1.74 and Group 2 pre-test 3.69±1.9, post- test 6.23±1.75.After the laboratory sessions, success averages of each group were increased significantly (p<0.05). When 2 groups compared with each other increase in the post-test results of the Group 2 was more statistically significant then the Group 1 (p<0.05). Consequently the education model enriched by newly designed method comes in useful for learning and improving the basic neuroanatomy knowledge.
